In our Lectionary readings this week, we come across four examples of people saying why they can't do something God tells them to do. Gideon tells God he cannot save his people because his family is the weakest in his tribe and he is the least man in his family. In his encounter with God, Isaiah fears for his life because he is a man of unclean lips. The Apostle Paul says he doesn't deserve to be called an apostle because of his former persecution of the church. When Peter hauls in his miraculous catch of fish, he cries out to Jesus, "Get away from me, Lord; I am a sinful man!" To which Jesus answers, "Don't be afraid. From now on you will fish for men and women." Join the people who are Aloha Church of God this Sunday (2/10 at 10:15) as we discuss the implications for us of Christ's charge to his disciples to be fishers of men and women in "When God Says WE CAN, Why Do We Say WE CAN'T?" We'll save a seat for you.
